Why Rough-In Dimensions Decide the Outcome

Every fixture spec sheet lists a rough-in dimension — the distance from the finished wall to the supply and drain connections — and it’s the single most common reason a bathroom project runs into a costly mid-install change. A standard toilet rough-in is 12 inches from the finished wall, but older homes in this area, especially anything built before the 1990s, sometimes measure 10 or 14 inches instead. Order the fixture before confirming that number and you’re either modifying the wall or returning the fixture. We measure and confirm rough-in dimensions before any fixture is ordered or installed, not after.
